Gerhard Heinrich, M.D.

Clinical/Research Interests

Gerhard Heinrich brings an extensive background in biochemistry and endocrinology. His distinguished record of research achievements includes the Nathan Hofheimer Fellowship and New Investigator Research Award, as well as a recent James A. Shannon Director's Award from the National Institutes of Health to study aging and neurotrophins. Heinrich uses a genetic approach to the analysis of neurotrophin in gene expression and function in embryonic development and aging. He continues his genetic research into zebra fish development, having already cloned two novel neurotrophin receptor genes from zebra fish and described in detail their cellular patterns of expression in the early embryonic period.
