Medical Student Elective Courses

HON 460 - ACTING INTERNSHIP (maximum 1 student per session - 4 week rotation)
Prerequisite: Fourth year medical student in good standing. The student participates with members of the subspecialty service in the initial evaluation, work-up, and management of patients with anemias, solid tumors, and leukemias. Experience will be available in bone marrow transplantation and high-dose therapy with peripheral stem cell infusion. Students will participate in Division Teaching Conferences and have the opportunity to present and discuss cases at the hospital-wide tumor boards. Reading assignments will be based on relevant cases.
HON 461 - CONSULT CLERKSHIP (maximum 2 students per session - 2 or 4 week rotation)
Prerequisite: Fourth year medical student in good standing. The student will work in close contact with the Hematology and Oncology Fellow(s) and the Hematology and Oncology Attending physician to provide inpatient consultation to patients with cancer and blood disorders on surgical and medical services. Students will have significant primary responsibility for the initial evaluation of these patients and will have extensive one-on-one experience with the Hematology and Oncology physician. Students will participate in Division Teaching Conferences and have the opportunity to present and discuss cases at the hospital-wide tumor boards. Reading assignments will be based on relevant cases.
HON 462 - AMBULATORY CLERKSHIP (maximum 2 students per session - 2 or 4 week rotation)
Prerequisite: Fourth year medical student in good standing. The student will work with outpatients in the Cancer Center specialty clinics. Students may have opportunities to read bone marrows and assist in the prescription and administration of chemotherapy. Students will participate in Division Teaching Conferences and have the opportunity to present and discuss cases at the hospital-wide tumor boards. Reading assignments will be based on relevant cases.
Foreign Medical Students
The Division of Hematology and Oncology does not accept foreign medical students.
