“There are only two things you have to do to become a successful internist—you have to care about learning, and you have to care.”
Mark C. Henderson, M.D., F.A.C.P.
The Department of Internal Medicine at the UC Davis School of Medicine offers a full range of postdoctoral training including categorical and primary care residencies and ten subspecialty fellowships. The Internal Medicine residency program is designed to provide a solid foundation for physicians choosing a career in academic medicine or clinical practice.
The UC Davis Internal Medicine residency program offers categorical, primary and preliminary positions. It offers diverse inpatient and outpatient clinical experiences within three different hospital systems: UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento Kaiser Permanente Group and the Mather Veterans Administration Medical Center. Each site offers a distinct training experience with its unique patient population, enabling our residents to become comfortable in various practice settings. UC Davis’ 140 full-time and 400 clinical faculty members staff all medical services. The major training site is the UC Davis Medical Center, which admits more than 30,000 patients and sees nearly 900,000 patients in outpatient clinics each year.
Our faculty includes leading clinicians, educators and researchers. Many faculty conduct clinical trials, which offer patients the latest advances in medical diagnosis and treatment. We also afford residents ample opportunities to conduct research under the direction of key faculty.
Our program is well known for the collegial peer support among the residents and a supportive learning environment. We place high value on academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, human service, broad interests and professionalism. Our graduates are well prepared to pursue careers in outpatient clinical practice, hospital-based internal medicine, academics and subspecialty fellowship training.
We welcome the opportunity to meet you. Please call the Internal Medicine Residency Office at (916) 734-7087 or 734-7080 if you have any questions about our program or application process.
Sincerely,
Mark C. Henderson, M.D., F.A.C.P.
